ADRIE — Artistic & Design Research for Immersive Experiences — is the CIIIC funding scheme for artistic and design research into immersive experiences. The scheme funds R&D projects in which artistic and design practice sits at the core of research into immersive experiences, and is run by the Creative Industries Fund NL.

What is ADRIE?

ADRIE supports artists, designers and other creative professionals experimenting with new forms of immersive art and design. It is about qualitative research that is rooted in creative and artistic practice and that pushes the boundaries of immersive media: new narrative forms, innovative interaction patterns, material research in VR, AR and XR, and the aesthetic and ethical dimensions of immersive technology.

Who is ADRIE for?

The scheme is intended for creative makers who work with immersive technology as an artistic medium, for design and arts programmes at universities of applied sciences and research universities, for cultural institutions such as museums, theatres and festivals exploring immersive formats, and for consortia in which creative organisations, technology partners and subject-matter experts work together.

How does the scheme work?

ADRIE consortia move through two phases. In the development phase, the research plan is worked out, with a budget of €50,000. In the subsequent implementation phase, the research project is carried out, with a grant of up to €1,300,000. The available budget and the number of consortia to be selected are set for each edition.
