Looking ahead to the Artistic & Design Research for Immersive Experiences funding scheme

In 2025, CIIIC and the Creative Industries Fund NL launched the Artistic & Design Research for Immersive Experiences (ADRIE) funding scheme. The scheme is intended for consortia of makers, producers, institutions, and researchers working on the development and application of immersive experiences through artistic and design research within a two-year activity programme. We look ahead to 2028 and 2029, and point to other schemes worth exploring in the meantime.

What has already happened?

In 2025 and 2026, new consortia were given the opportunity to apply for the Artistic & Design Research for Immersive Experiences (ADRIE) funding scheme. Five consortia have already been selected and are now working on delivering their two-year activity programmes.

Next phase

The next application opportunities for the ADRIE scheme are expected in 2028 and 2029. Based on these rounds, we hope to once again support up to ten consortia in realising two-year activity programmes, to be delivered in 2029-2030 or 2030-2031. This is not yet final, as delivery depends on funding for CIIIC's second phase from the National Growth Fund.

What's possible right now?

In the meantime, another CIIIC implementation partner offers opportunities for consortia interested in applying to the ADRIE scheme in 2028 or 2029. In 2026 and 2027, Regieorgaan SIA will run three funding schemes focusing on practice-oriented research by researchers at universities of applied sciences, universities, and other research institutions in collaboration with SMEs and/or public organisations.

These schemes may be of interest to consortia wishing to submit an application for the ADRIE scheme and looking to carry out preliminary research first. They can also be valuable for already-supported consortia where delivering an activity programme within the ADRIE scheme has shown that further research is needed. Take a look at the schemes:

  • CIIIC Start
This scheme encourages short-term, exploratory research into the effectiveness and responsible use of IX, and is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2026 and the second quarter of 2027.
  • CIIIC Kern
CIIIC Kern focuses on demand-driven, practice-oriented research into deploying or applying IX in SMEs and the public sector. The scheme is expected to open in the first quarter of 2027.
  • CIIIC Pro
This scheme is intended for four-year research into the effects of IX, and is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2026.

For up-to-date information on these schemes, go to the Regieorgaan SIA website.
